Getting Down with Tattoo Lingo

When getting tattooed or going through the tattoo removal process don’t be surprised if your tattoo artist begins speaking an unknown language to you, peppered with words and phrases that fly right over your head.

As a newcomer of the tattoo industry you’ll quickly discover there is a secret language used among “the inked.” So if you want in on the conversation going down, you’ll want to take a crash course on Tattoo Lingo before your tattooing or tattoo removal sessions. After all, you don’t want to be a “cadaver” (a client who stays mum throughout the entire “inking” process).

Tattoo Lingo - Slang of the Inked:

B-back – A client who says, in the middle of the tattooing, “I have to go to the bathroom” -- and then never comes back

Thinking About a Tattoo PDF Print E-mail

Are you thinking about getting a tattoo??  Read This!

Before you go getting super pumped about that tattoo you've always wanted, listen to me: Debbie Downer, the Tattoo Needlevoice of reason, here to remind you of allergic reactions, skin infections, skin disorders and blood born diseases.

How does Hepatitis C sound? Perhaps a loss of appetite with vomiting, body aches, jaundice and itchy skin before an all out attack on the liver leading to cirrhosis and liver cancer would be a good time wouldn't it? No?

Maybe you'd be more into Tetanus. Haven't heard of it? It's just this blood disease that infects human skeletal muscles causing muscle spasms or lock jaw. Who knows, it might even attack your lungs or circulatory system if you're really lucky.

Information on Tattoos - Before You Get A Tattoo

Five Questions to ask First Before Your First Tattoo

You've been thinking about getting your first tattoo.  It seems like you've been dreaming about this forever, but you're not sure where to go, or what design to get. The only thing you do know is you don't want your first tattoo experience to look like it was drawn on you with a "sharpie" marker.  So before you get a tattoo here are 5 questions to ask the tattoo artist first to avoid a bad tattoo experience.

1. What are your qualifications? Would you allow someone to perform surgery on you without knowing if he/she is a qualified surgeon? Okay, so the same should be true when selecting a tattoo artist. You may regard these two professions very differently, however they share important similarities - both involve the use of needles and both professionals must be knowledgeable and practice sterile technique when tattooing and sterilizing their equipment.

2. Do you guarantee your work? If the final design isn't exactly what you communicated, will it be fixed at no charge? What is the process if you are unhappy with the tattoo and think it is bad? Is there any type of refund policy? Very important points about the type of service provided after the artist has made the sale.

Tips for Getting Your Tattoo

If you’ve been thinking long and hard about getting a tattoo, and you are certain you want one; consider these six tips before getting a tattoo.

1. Hot or Not... what’s “hot” now may not be hot later. Resist the urge to strut the latest fad and select a tattoo design that has meaning to you.

2. Stick with simple: large or eccentric ink can draw unwanted attention. A smaller tattoo with 1 to 3 ink colors is easier to remove, should you decide you want to remove your tattoo.

Tattoo Removal Takes on a New Name with Celebrity Break Ups

angelina billy tattooIt seems like each and everyday we read in the tabloid and entertainment magazine headlines that yet another Hollywood couple is calling it quits.  There are so many hook ups, break ups, and make ups in the headlines it is difficult to keep track of which couples are hot and which are not.  It also seems that most of these celebrity couples, that are doomed to disintegrate in a few months or a few years, get each other’s names tattooed on their bodies.

Now, we all know that getting a tattoo or jumping into a relationship should not be a fleeting decision, but with the amount of Hollywood tattoo removal we’ve read about, maybe the stars should stay away from the ink.

One of the most famously tattooed movie stars of modern times may be Angelina Jolie.  She’s got tattoos all over, some in plain sight, others we have only heard about.  However, it seems as though Ms. Jolie falls in love and then inks her body, which might not always be the best course of action.  It’s an age old piece of cautionary advice to NOT tattoo a spouse or lover’s name anywhere on you just in case you should split up.  Apparently, no one gave Angelina that advice before she made her tattoo appointments.  Angelina Jolie has been linked up (and inked up) with both Timothy Hutton and Billy Bob Thornton.  The former is represented by a single “H” on the inside of her left wrist, which now she claims represents her brother, James Haven.  However, her more famous tattoos, associated with Billy Bob, were in a “private” place and her upper shoulder.  He also tattooed her name on his shoulder.  Both have since had the tattoos removed or altered since their divorce.
