Tattoo Tips to Prevent Tattoo Removal

Here are six things to consider before getting a tattoo to help prevent tattoo removal later in life.

1. Hot or Not- what’s “hot” now may not be hot later. Resist the urge to strut the latest fad and select a tattoo design that has meaning to you.

2. Keep it Simple- large or eccentric tattoo designs draw more attention that can be unwanted.  Also, the bigger the tattoo and the more ink colors used in the design, the harder it is to remove.

3. Conceal or Reveal - when choosing the spot on your body to get a tattoo, think about your career and lifestyle goals. Getting a tattoo in an area that can be covered with clothing gives you more options allowing you to reveal and conceal your tattoo as you wish.

4. Safety First - research and visit the tattoo artist at his or her studio before getting your tattoo, in order to make sure the shop is a clean, reputable and licensed professional tattoo business. Look around the place and check it out, to make sure the equipment is clean, sanitized, and the artist works using sterile technique i.e. wearing disposable gloves, uses needles on one client only, and properly disposes used needles and blood born waste in a labeled “Hazardous Waste” container.

5. Leave Tattooing to the Professionals- strongly advise refraining from tattooing or piercing yourself. Such amateur acts are more likely to lead to infection, health complications and even death.

6. Listen to Your Body- if you suspect a problem or have symptoms of abnormal redness and soreness on or around a new tattoo, DO NOT IGNORE IT! Consult your doctor immediately, as infections are life threatening.

Giving careful consideration to these six tips before you get a tattoo will help save you from experiencing regret and the tattoo removal process.  Good Luck
