Fashion, tattoos, youth, and baby bumps are fleeting; motherhood is forever lasting Fashion has thrown caution to the wind these days, and not figuratively. Tattoos, the trendsetters of yesterday are being bumped to the back burner by the rising hot trend in the oven- “baby bumps.”
It seems pregnant is the new black, and being “preggers” is popping out as the latest Hollywood style statement among young single celebrities. But as we all know fashion trends such as celebrity tattoos, do not pop and stop at the edge of the Red Carpet. It seems US teen pregnancies are on the rise after a steady decline from 1991 to 2005. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, birth rates for teenagers aged 15 to 17 rose by 3 percent in 2006, the first increase since 1991. In fact, recent news headlines covered a teenage "pregnancy pact" in the Northeast has US authorities investigating 17 schoolgirls intentionally expecting babies they plan to raise together as a group. Some sources are pointing fingers and the blame on Hollywood celebrities for glamorizing pregnancy with recent films such as Juno and Knocked Up, not to mention TV teen network Nickelodeon’s star Jamie Lynn Spears, and sister of pop idol Britney Spears, herself another young mother, giving birth this week at age 17. Fortunately for tattoo trend followers, advancements in tattoo removal has removed the sting of “forever” from getting a tattoo by undoing the later regret of having to live with a bad decision. |
