Today’s Tattoo is Tomorrow’s Aging Regret

Most twenty-something year olds give little thought if any about what life will be like at forty, fifty, or sixty-something, let alone what today’s twenty something tattoo will look like when it’s a wrinkly sixty something tat.

Fortunately for everyone, there is something called tattoo removal to wipe the old slate clean of tattoo skin that’s become rumpled with age.  And for anyone considering a tattoo today, but wondering if age will really be something that later causes tattoo regret, here are a few things to consider.

Tattoo on areas of the body where skin wrinkles with age, will be a wrinkled tattoo.  The loss of hydration and natural moisture in the skin as it ages also affects the coloration and lines of the design, so many tattoo artists suggest making tattoos a little larger than originally planned to help compensate for the shrinkage.

Sun exposure causes the majority of skin’s premature aging and when it comes to tattoos there is more than wrinkled skin to be concerned with.  The fine details, color brightness, and character lines of tattoos become damaged quickly when exposed to excessive sun.   In fact, black ink becomes gray or bluish overtime, while one bad sunburn can fade white and yellow color ink pigments completely away.

Ironically, larger tattoos tend withstand the effects of aging skin better than smaller detailed designs however, smaller tattoos usually cost less money and take less time then the big bold tattoo designs both to get and to fade away.   Just a little something extra about tattoo removal all of you twenty something year olds may or may not want to think about before getting today’s tattoo.
